Ojai, CA - UCLA's final singles contestant in the invitational draw fell today, as did the Bruins' only doubles team participating in the main draw of the Pac-10 Championships at Ojai. A day after winning two matches to advance to the quarterfinals of the 32-player draw, Nina Yaftali fell to Nicole Havlicek, 7-5, 6-1. The doubles team of Shilpa Joshi and Anya Loncaric fell to No. 21 Tiffany Brymer and Jewel Peterson of USC, 8-4.
Yesterday, Laura Gordon, Anya Loncaric, and Shilpa Joshi made first-round exits in the main singles draw, as did Kate Jolson in the invitational singles draw. Susi Wild knocked off USC's Peterson in the first round of the main draw, but fell to Washington's Erin Boisclair in the second round.
Gordon, Jolson, Loncaric, and Joshi will compete in the Pac-10 women's BD singles draw on Saturday, and the Joshi/Loncaric doubles team will face Joanna Kao and Jessica Leck of Stanford on Saturday afternoon in the BD doubles draw.
The Bruins will find out their NCAA Tournament pairing on Wednesday, April 30. NCAA play will begin on Friday, May 9.
