The No. 6 Arizona Wildcats proved to be too much for the Bruins as they defeated No. 7 UCLA 145-98 on Saturday in Tucson, AZ. Senior Kim Vandenberg and junior Katie Nelson led the Bruins with individual wins at the meet as the Bruins lost their first Pac-10 meet of the year (5-1, 2-1 Pac-10).
For the second time in two days, Nelson won the 1000 Freestyle (9:58.31), while Vandenberg won the 200 Butterfly in an NCAA "A" qualifying time (1:57.77). Vandenberg and Nelson also had second-place finishes in the 200 Freestyle (1:48.14, "B") and 500 Freestyle (4:51.52, "B"), respectively.
Junior Jane Imagane (1000 Free, 10:15.53), junior Katie Arnold (50 Free, 23.40, "B"; 200 Back (1:59.20, "B"), sophomore Chiemi Yamamoto (400IM, 4:24.28), sophomore Nicolette Teo (200 Breast, 2:16.28, "B"), senior Paige Thompson (1M, 246.10) and junior Sara Clark (3M, 275.10) all had second-place finishes in the meet.
In all, UCLA had one NCAA "A" qualifier and five "B" qualifiers at the meet.
The swim and dive team will head to Athens, GA for the Georgia Invitational December 2-4 before taking a month off from competition. The swim team will return to competition January 5, 2006 when they host Purdue, while the dive team will be off until January 14-15 when they head to the Indiana University Invitational in Bloomington, IN.
