Former Bruin Volleyball Stars Play Prominent Role in USPV's Inaugural Season

March 21, 2002

As the U.S. Pro Volleyball (USPV) nears the completion of its second month of competition, three former Bruins playing in the leauge are all playing prominent roles. Middle blocker Elisabeth "Wiz" Bachman is playing for the Minnesota Chill, while outisde hitter Kristee Porter and libero Michelle Quon play for the Chicago Thunder.

In the first match of this inaugural season, Bachman was named the Player of the Match as Bachman's Minnesota Chill defeated the St. Louis Quest, 3-1. Through games of March 19, Bachman's Chill leads the league with a 7-3 record. Individually, Bachman is second in the league in blocks per match (3.3), sixth in the league standings in attack percentage (.277), tied for seventh in points per match (11.0) and 13th in kills per match (6.9).

Quon, who was a senior with Bachman during the 2000 UCLA season, is playing as a Libero for the Thunder, and is tied with Porter in digs per match with 11.0, ranking third in the league standings.

Porter, who set numerous UCLA and Pac-10 career records during her four-year Bruin career, has twice been named the USPV's Player of the Week, winning the inaugural honor (Feb. 5-10) and earning the honor again for the period of March 4-10. En route to the February award, Porter sent numerous league benchmarks in Chicago's opener against Grand Rapids on Feb. 6, scoring 28.5 points, including 19 kills and six service aces. All three totals are league single-match records.

Porter leads the USPV in scoring with an average of 19.9 points per match, and in kills with 16.6 kpm while ranking second in service aces (1.5 apm).

All three Bruins return to action tonight (March 21), as the Chill travels to Chicago for a 7 pm CT match against the Thunder. For more information on the USPV, their web site is uspv.com
