Bruin Women's Hoops Picked Third in Pac-10

Oct. 26, 2004

The UCLA women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the Pac-10 conference in the annual pre-season media vote. In addition, junior guard Nikki Blue and sophomore guard Noelle Quinn were selected to the five-player pre-season All-Pac-10 team.

Coach Kathy Olivier's Bruins will play their first exhibition game of the season on November 7 in Pauley Pavilion. UCLA opens the regular season on Nov. 19 against TCU in the first round of the Miami, FL Jam. The Bruins have been ranked as high as No. 22 (Lindy's) in the pre-season magazines.

Stanford and Arizona finished tied for the Pac-10 championship last season and were tied at the top of today's media vote with 140 points each. UCLA had 122 points in third place. Arizona State totaled 100 points for fourth place and was followed by Washington (83), Oregon (78), USC (61), Oregon State (45), California (34) and Washington State (22).

Blue and Quinn were joined on the pre-season all-conference team by Arizona's 6-5 junior center Shawntinice Polk and 5-6 senior guard Dee-Dee Wheeler and by Stanford's 5-9 senior guard Kelley Suminski.
