Merrick led UCLA to a 27-shot victory at the Pac-10 Men's Golf Championship for the Bruins' first men's golf conference title in 18 years. He also won Pac-10 medalist honors, becoming UCLA's first conference individual winner since 1985 and the fifth overall from UCLA.
Merrick, who also earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors last week, fired a final round, nine-under par 63, setting a course record at Oakmont CC. His round featured three eagle and three birdies, including consecutive eagles on the 17th and 18th holes. His tournament victory in the Pac-10 Championship was the first collegiate victory of his career. He shot an opening round of 74, two-over par, but played the final 54 holes in 14-under par. His score of 63 set a school record for lowest round in relation to par (-9), and it was a collegiate career best round. He finished with a 72-hole total of 276, 12-under par.
This is Merrick's first UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
