UCLA Captures Third At U.S. Intercollegiates

The UCLA men's golf team captured third place Sunday at the U.S. Intercollegiates, hosted at the Stanford Golf Course.

The Bruins posted a team score of even par 284 for a 54-hole total of 862, 10-over par. USC won the event with a three-round total of 848, four-under par, followed by Stanford at 858. Oregon placed fourth at 865 and Washington State took fifth at 870.

Individually, sophomores John Merrick and Roy Moon tied for 13th place at 216, three-over par. Sunday, Merrick fired a three-under par 68, and Moon posted his third straight 72. Freshman John Poucher tied for 17th place at 217, four-over par. Sophomore Steve Conway posted a final round, even-par score of 71 and finished in a tie for 33rd at 220 and freshman Breene Murphy tied for 41st at 222.

Stanford's Philip Rowe won individual medalist honors with an eight-under par total ot 205. USC's Kevin Stadler placed second at 217, and Washington State's John Reeboorn was third at two-under par 211.
