The No. 7 UCLA women's tennis team will take on the Washington schools for the only time this season on Friday at Washington State and on Saturday against the No. 9 Huskies. Washington comes into the match at 14-3, 3-2 Pac-10, while the Cougars are 7-10 and 0-5 in conference play. Last year, UCLA swept the Washington schools at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, and then added a 4-1 win over the Huskies in the second round of NCAA play.
UCLA Finishes Home Season . . .
The Bruins compiled an 8-3 record at the Los Angeles Tennis Center this season, despite being swept over the weekend by Stanford and Cal. UCLA won the doubles point against No. 2 Cal and won four of the first six sets in singles, but Cal regained momentum and won, 6-1. On Saturday, No. 2 Stanford won 6-1, though UCLA's national-No. 23 Jackie Carleton defeated No. 16 Lauren Barnikow, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Bruins Climb to Seventh . . .
UCLA claimed the seventh spot in the April 2 ITA Top-25 poll while playing a schedule that boasts five of the top six teams in the nation. The Bruins' four players in the top 80 of the ITA's singles rankings is tied for the third-most in the nation. No. 2 Stanford also has four, while No. 1 Duke has five and No. 5 Florida has six.

Sara Walker Chosen for ITA's All-Star Japan Trip . . .
UCLA's Sara Walker was chosen by the ITA as one of only five women's players to travel to Tokyo in mid-June as part of the "2003 Japan Trip All-Star Team." The other four participants are Mary Ellen Gordon of Emory University, Raquel Kops-Jones of California, Jewel Peterson of USC, and Leslie Stewart of Tyler Junior College in Texas. The team will be coached by Dr. Ann Lebedeff of the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.

Stella Sampras Webster Guides the Bruins . . .
In her seventh season as the Bruins' head coach, Stella Sampras Webster earned her milestone 100th career win against No. 11 Tennessee. In her first six seasons, she guided the Bruins to five top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including three top-5 showings (1997, 2000, and 2002). In 2000, she was named the ITA West Region Coach of the Year. The former Stella Sampras married Steve Webster on January 3, 2003.
