Day #1 - May 17, 2004 (Tuesday)

Today was our travel day. The coaches and staff had the morning to finalize last minute details while the team went to class. We had a mid afternoon flight so we left campus at around 1:30 for the NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The University of Tulsa recently just built a brand new $12 million tennis facility that is supposedly state of the art with both indoor and outdoor courts.

We earned our spot in the round of 16 by winning two matches at the Regionals this past weekend. We will play Texas A&M this Saturday at 6:00 pm CST. The Aggies are currently 24-8 and ranked #24 in the country and reached Tulsa by upsetting #13 Virginia Commonwealth in their regional fianl.

The highlight of the flight down to Oklahoma was the one hour lay-over in Las Vegas. While we didn't leave the airport, the team still had a good time and did not waste a second! We arrived in Tulsa right around 10:45 pm CST and went directly to the hotel. We got all of our bags and drove downtown to our hotel for the tournament. The entire team was pretty hungry and we didn't have to think twice about where to have dinner - Waffle House. This restaurant chain, a team favorite and abundant in the south, is a 24-hour breakfast diner with a taste that can not be duplicated!

Today is the beginning of the end. We have had a great season and want to try and finish the season off strong. It is now almost 2:00 a.m. local time (which is only midnight at UCLA) but time to call it a day.
