Malibu, Calif. - The No. 23 Pepperdine Waves used five free passes to post four runs in the third inning and added two more runs in the seventh for a 6-1 win over UCLA Tuesday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium. The loss puts UCLA at 9-10 on the season, while Pepperdine improves to 10-9.

Junior Hector Ambriz went 2-for-4 on the day with two singles, and junior Eric Taylor, Jr. nailed a pinch hit home run to left field to lead off the ninth inning for the Bruins' only run of the game.

Pepperdine senior RHP James Johnson (1-1) went 8.0 innings with seven strikeouts, allowing three hits an one walk, while retiring the last 13 consecutive Bruin hitters he faced to earn the win.

The Waves took advantage of some walks in a very tight strike zone to go up 4-0 in the third inning. Junior Brian Schroeder issued back-to-back walks to David Uribes and Danny Worth to put two Pepperdine runners on. Chad Tracy then singled to right field to score Uribes from second base and give the Waves a 1-0 lead. Schroeder walked Justin Tellam to load the bases, and then hit Donald Brown with a pitch to score Worth. Freshman Jason Novak came in to relieve Schroeder and walked Nick Kliebert on four pitches to score Tracy. Luke Salas hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Tellam and put the Waves up 4-0.

Pepperdine added two runs in the seventh inning to go up 6-0 on the Bruins. A RBI single up the middle by Tracy to score Worth from third after he doubled and advanced to on a wild pitch made it 5-0. Kliebert drilled a two-out double off the left field wall to score Tracy from first and give Pepperdine a 6-0 advantage.

UCLA will return home to host No. 19 Ole Miss for a three-game series at Jackie Robinson Stadium beginning Friday, March 10.
