Three Bruins Receive AWPCA Academic Honors

The American Water Polo Coaches Association announced the 2001-2002 Women's All-Academic Team. Bruins receiving Excellent Academic honors are juniors Robin Beauregard and Maureen Flanagan and redshirt freshman Leah Wilson.

Beauregard (Huntington Beach, CA/Marina HS) scored 28 goals this season in addition to 21 assists and 28 steals. She received her third All-America honor this season and was named to both the NCAA and MPSF All-Tournament teams for the second consecutive year. Beauregard was also a 2002 All-MPSF selection. This is her first AWPCA Academic honor. She has a 3.372 gpa.

Flanagan (Honolulu, HI/Punahou HS) scored 17 goals and tied for second on the team in steals with 28. She had 16 assists on the season. This is her second AWPCA honor, having earned Excellent Academic recognition in 2000. She has a 3.281 gpa.

Wilson (Honolulu, HI/Iolani HS) scored five goals and had five assists and nine steals coming off the Bruin bench. This is her first AWPCA Academic honor. She has a 3.367 gpa.

The Bruins also received team academic recognition with a 2.80 cumulative team gpa.

The athletes represent achievement on three levels: Excellent 3.20-3.40, Superior 3.41-3.70, and Outstanding 3.71-4.0, while the Team Honors represent those institutions whose combined team GPA is over 2.75.
