Three meet records and one stadium record highlighted the second day of competition at the fourth annual Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational as several Bruins posted season and lifetime-best marks on Friday.

American Record Holder in the javelin, Kim Kreiner, set a new Drake Stadium and RJ/JJK Invite meet record with a throw of 187-7 to win that event. Chinese National Team Member Yuan Jin won the 3000m, setting a new meet record of 9:17.52. BYU runner Chelsea McKell also set a meet record, running 16:35.31 in the 5000m.

Sophomore Elizabeth Woepse won the pole vault with a regional qualifying jump of 12-5.50. Sophomores Ingrid Kantola and Megan Jamerson both cleared a season-best 12-1.50, as Kantola finished fifth and Jamerson was sixth. Freshman Anastasia Papadakis jumped a lifetime-best 11-1.75 to finish tied for 13th.

Sophomore Renee Williams won the open section of the 100m with a lifetime-best of 12.17, while freshman Rhonda Watkins was third in 12.31.

Freshman Chanelle Curry finished second in the 400m, running a season-best 56.30. Sophomore DeShanta Harris was sixth in a season-best time of 58.16.

Freshman Hillary Werth threw 40-8.25 in the shot put to finish ninth overall, while sophomore Danielle Smith placed fifth overall in the open discus with a season-best 140-3. Junior Sarah Ingram threw a season-best 120-3 to finish 13th overall, while Werth placed 14th with a throw of 119-11.

In the evening session of the meet, senior Leslie Barrie won the steeplechase, running a lifetime-best by 17 seconds, 10:33.48 (old best, 10:50.78). Her time moved her to No. 2 all-time at UCLA and was also a regional qualifying mark. Freshman Ciara Viehweg also had a big night, running a lifetime-best by seven seconds, 10:56.11 (old best, 11:03.69) to move into No. 6 all-time in UCLA history, finishing fifth overall.

In the 800m, sophomore Shantae McKinney ran a season-best 2:12.60 to finish fourth overall, while freshman Gabrielle Bournes ran a lifetime-best of 2:12.62 to place fifth overall. Sophomore Alice Bohannon was 10th in a time of 2:17.86.

Junior Allison Hall ran a season-best 4:33.54 in the 1500m to finish fifth overall, while freshman Lauren Jirges was 17th with a time of 4:42.60. Senior Sarah West finished off the night with an eighth-place finish in the 5000m, running 17:46.25.

Invitational competition continues on Saturday with the women's pole vault kicking off the field event competition at 11:30 am. Track events begin at 12:15 pm with the 4x100m relay. A recognition ceremony for the namesakes of the meet, Rafer Johnson and Jackie Joyner-Kersee, will be held at 2:00 pm.
