WALNUT CREEK, CA - After winning the NCAA Championship last season, UCLA has been selected by the Pac-10 Conference softball coaches as the Conference's top team in 2004. The Bruins received 48 points, including six first place votes. UCLA will hold its Alumnae Game on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm at Easton Stadium, and will open its 2004 regular season at the Long Beach State Tournament on Feb. 7.
In 2003, UCLA posted a 54-7 record and went 17-4 in the Pac-10 for a second place conference finish. Last season, the Pac-10 sent all eight softball teams to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in league history. Four schools (Arizona, Cal, UCLA and Washington)) advanced to the Women's College World Series. For the 10th time in Pac-10 history, two conference teams (UCLA and Cal) squared off in the National Championship Game.
Results of the poll are as follows. Seven points are awarded for a first-place vote, six points for a second place vote, and so on. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.
