This Week . . .
The No. 5 UCLA women's tennis team will conclude its 2000 home season with the Washington Schools this Friday and Saturday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. On Friday, UCLA hosts the Washington Huskies (11-7) in a Pac-10 matchup beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Huskies boast the No. 1 ranked player in the nation in Kristina Kraszewski. Saturday's match against Washington State (10-9) will kickoff at Noon.

The Bruins are coming off a disappointing weekend at home against the Bay Area schools. On Friday, UCLA suffered only its third home loss this season, a 7-2 decision to top-ranked Stanford. Both teams were playing shorthanded as UCLA was without Amanda Basica due to a neck injury and Stanford was without the services of Laura Granville, who was also injured. On Saturday, despite strong showings from Sara Walker and Abigail Spears, the Bruins dropped their second match in as many days, falling to No. 8 Cal 6-3. These teams will meet again when UCLA travels up to the Bay Area April 21 and 22.
ITA Rankings - Walker Breaks Into Top-10 . . .
UCLA currently stands at No. 5 in the latest ITA team rankings. New team and individual rankings will be released this Wednesday (4/12). In singles, Sara Walker moved into the top-10 for the first time this season two weeks ago as she is currently at No. 9 nationally. At No. 43, Amanda Basica is the Bruins' next-highest ranked player followed by Annica Cooper at No. 91. Walker and Basica are listed at No. 8 in doubles, making up UCLA's only ranked doubles team.
Basica, Cooper, Schmidt Headline Senior Day This Saturday!
Saturday's showdown with Washington State will mark the final home match for Bruin seniors Amanda Basica, Annica Cooper and Elizabeth Schmidt. All three have won All-America honors during their time in Westwood and serve as the tri-captains for this year's team. Cooper, a three-time All-American and Pac-10 Player of the Year in 1998, is looking to be only the fifth UCLA player ever to be named All-American four years in a row. Basica, who was an All-American her freshman season at the University of Florida, earned the honor again last season after posting an impressive 24-10 singles record. Schmidt earned doubles All-America honors as a freshman in 1997.
