The top-seeded UCLA men's golf team owns the first-round lead at the NCAA West Regional, hosted by the University of Washington at Washington National Golf Course in Auburn, WA.

The first round, which began Thursday, was delayed more than four hours by rain, hail, wind and lightning. Only six of the 27 teams finished on Thursday; the rest completed the round Friday.

The Bruins hold a three-shot lead after the first round. UCLA posted a team score of 291, three-over par and leads second place New Mexico which finished at 294. Arizona, Oregon and the University of Denver are tied for third at seven-over par 295. In sixth place is UNLV at 296, followed by Georgia in seventh at 297. The top 10 finishers after 54-holes advance to the NCAA Championships, May 28-31, at the Karsten Course in Stillwater, OK.

Individually for the Bruins, juniors Steve Conway and Travis Johnson are tied for fourth place at one-under par 71.Roy Moon is tied for 23rd at 74 and John Merrick and John Poucher are tied for 37th after posting 75s.

New Mexico's Michael Letzig is the first-round leader at three-under par 69, followed by San Diego State's Brian Miller and Arizona's Chris Nallen, who are tied for second at two-under par 70.
