#2 UCLA Women's Water Polo Continues Dominance At Home

This Week: The second-ranked UCLA women's water polo team (11-2 overall, 6-0 MPSF) has the next two and half weeks off before their next scheduled game against the UCSB Gauchos on Friday, March 30, at the Sunset Recreation Center.

UCLA vs. UCSB: The Bruins have played the No. 8 Gauchos once this year, facing off at the UCSB Tournament in February. The Bruins were victorious, 12-2, and are now 23-1 against UCSB all time The Gauchos are currently 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the MPSF. They play against UC Irvine on Mar. 29 at home, before heading down to Westwood on Friday, Mar. 30. UCSB finished last season with an 11-19 overall record and was 3-6 in the MPSF. They finished ranked tenth nationally.

Last Week: UCLA had a three-game homestand against three top-ten MPSF opponents. In the first game on Friday, the Bruins defeated No. 3 USC, 13-6. The Women of Troy fell to 10-3 overall and 3-2 in the MPSF. Their only other losses have come to the No. 1 Stanford Cardinal. Coralie Simmons led the way for UCLA with four goals.

On Saturday, the Bruins knocked off the previously undefeated Hawaii Rainbow Wahine (10-1 overall, 1-1 MPSF) by a score of 14-3. Simmons hit the back of the net four times to lead the Bruins once again. The Bruins move to 12-0 all time against Hawaii.

Finishing on Sunday, the Bruins beat up on No. 5 Long Beach State, 18-2. Kelly Heuchan and Mari Joyce each had four goals for UCLA in the victory. The loss drops the 49ers to 7-6 on the season and 0-3 in the MPSF. The Bruins remain perfect against Long Beach State, defeating them all seven times they have played.

Bruin Notes: Junior Kelly Heuchan (Perth, Australia/All Saints College/Univ. Of Western Australia) continued her hot shooting, recording seven goals this weekend, including four goals against Long Beach State. Heuchan has now scored in nine straight games and has 22 goals to lead the Bruins this season. Senior captain Coralie Simmons came out firing this past weekend as well. Simmons scored 11 goals in 10 quarters of play, moving her season total to 21 goals and extending her goals a game streak to six UCLA's career leader in goals scored, Simmons keeps adding to her record total, where she currently has hit the back of the net 215 times.

UCLA has outscored its opponents 157-56 this season. In the Bruins' eleven wins, their average margin of victory is eleven points.

The Bruins have now won five games in a row, their longest win streak this season UCLA has also won eight home games in a row, dating back to last season.
