Women's Rowing to Compete at Head of the Marina, Newport Autumn Rowing Festival

The UCLA women's rowing team competes at the Head of the Marina and the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival.


Head of the Marina
On Sat., Nov. 2, the Bruins compete at home in the Head of the Marina, hosted by the California Yacht Club. The regatta is scheduled to take place all morning.

Last season at the Head of the Marina, the Bruin varsity eight rowed the three-mile course in 20:53 to capture the Women's Open Eight over home course rival, Loyola Marymount.

Directions to the UCLA Marina del Rey Aquatic Center:
From UCLA:
Take the 405 South (San Diego Freeway).
Take the 90 West (Marina del Rey Freeway).
Follow the 90 all the way to its end (which is a surface street).
Make a LEFT on "Mindanao."
Make a LEFT on "Lincoln Blvd."
Make a RIGHT on "Fiji Way" (the Aquatic Center is located at the end of Fiji Way, behind the Villa Venetia Apartment Complex).

Parking will be available at the Fisherman's Village (5 minutes walk from the Aquatic Center) or Dock 52 (15 minutes walk from the Aquatic Center).


Newport Autumn Rowing Festival
On Sun., Nov. 3, the UCLA women's rowing team travels to Newport Beach, Calif. to compete at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival. Detailed information about the event can be found on the Newport Aquatic Center (NAC) web page. The regatta is scheduled to take place all morning.

Last season at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival, the UCLA varsity eight placed fourth out of a field of twenty-one teams. Finishing ahead of the Bruins were cross-town rival, USC, UC Davis, and LMU, respectively.

Directions to the Newport Aquatic Center:
From UCLA:
Take the 405 South (San Diego Freeway).
Take the 55 South until it becomes Newport Blvd.
Continue South on Newport Blvd.
LEFT on "17th Street."
LEFT on "Dover Drive."
RIGHT on "Westcliff Drive."
RIGHT at the stop sign (still Westcliff Drive.)
RIGHT on "Santiago Drive."
LEFT on "Polaris Drive."
RIGHT on "Northstar Lane."
Left on "Whitecliffs Drive."

Note: Once you reach Dover Drive, blue and white signs will help guide you to NAC.


Last Week
The Bruins competed at the Head of the American in Rancho Cordova, Calif. The varsity eights finished eighth and ninth in the Women's Open Eight, and the Bruin novices won the Women's Novice Eight competition.
