At the 2003 ConocoPhillips National Championships, held August 5-9 in College Park, MD, Sara Platzer, Kristen Lewis, Jackie Lobdell, Melissa Miller, Naoko Watanabe and Kim Vandenberg led the Bruin competitors. Platzer was the highest placing Bruin, finishing seventh in the 50 Free in 26.30 (26.36Q). Watanabe was 14th (2:18.42, 2:17.95Q) in the 200 Back. Miller placed 16th in the 1500 Free (16:52.25). Vandenberg, the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, was 10th in the 100 Fly (1:00.90) and 18th in the 200 Fly (2:14.55). Lewis was 17th in the 100 Fly (1:00.80). And, Lobdell was 22nd (4:20.79, 4:19.00Q) in the 400 Free.
