Oneonta, NY - UCLA men's soccer standout Sasha Victorine (Corona, Calif.) has been announced as one of five finalists for the Hermann Trophy, awarded annually by the National Soccer Hall of Fame to the top collegiate soccer player in the nation.
Victorine, a 6-2 senior midfielder and team co-captain, has had an oustanding season this year, tying for the team lead in points scored (a career-high 30) and setting new career marks in goals (11) and assists (8). He is also a three-time nominee for the Missouri Athletic Club's Player of the Year Award.
Also nominated are senior goalkeeper Adin Brown (William & Mary), junior forward Ali Curtis (Duke), junior defender Nick Garcia (Indiana) and senior forward Aleksey Korol (Indiana).
The winner of the 1999 Hermann Trophy will be announced on Saturday, Dec. 11, in Charlotte, NC, site of the 1999 Men's College Cup. Only one other Bruin has ever won the Hermann Trophy - Brad Friedel in 1992.
The Hermann Trophy is named after Robert R. Hermann of St. Louis, founding chairman of the North American Soccer League. The first Hermann was presented in 1967 to Dov Marcus of Long Island University.
