In the championship game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament, the top-seeded and No. 1 ranked UCLA Bruins defeated No. 3 Stanford, 9-5. The Bruins move their record to 30-0, marking a 30 game winning streak for the season, the longest single season winning streak in UCLA women's water polo history. The 30-0 record is also the best record ever in the four year history of women's water polo history in the NCAA. This is the fifth time the Bruins have won the MPSF conference Championship. The last four times were in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 2002.
Molly Cahill scored three goals in first half of the game to give the Bruins a strong lead. The Bruin defense shut out the Cardinal throughout the second quarter and UCLA a 7-2 half time lead. The Bruins were outscored 3-2 in the second half but were able to hold on for the victory, beating number three-seeded Stanford, 9-5. This is UCLA's third victory over Stanford on the season and the Cardinal record moves to 20-6.
For the Bruins, Molly Cahill was the leading scorer with three goals. Natalie Golda, Jillian Kraus, Kacy Kunkel, Thalia Munro, Brittany Rowe, and Kelly Rulon each added one. Goalkeeper Emily Feher had 10 saves. For the Cardinal, Laurel Champion, Alison Gregorka, Katie Hansen, Christina Hewko, and Nancy El-Sakkary each scored a goal. Meridith McColl had six saves for Stanford.
