The 11th-ranked UCLA women's golf team is tied for sixth place after the first round in the NCAA West Regional, hosted by Arizona State at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, AZ
The top eight teams qualify in the 54-hole event for the NCAA Championships at Purdue University, May 21-24.
The Bruins posted a 10-over par score of 298 Thursday and are deadlocked with UNLV. USC leads the field with a nine-under par score of 279, followed by Oklahoma State at even par 288. Host Arizona State is third at two-over par 290. Pepperdine is fourth at 294, followed by Washington State in fifth at 297.
UCLA sophomore Charlotte Mayorkas is tied for fifth place at two-under par 70. Junior Gina Umeck is tied for 28th at 75, followed by freshman Susie Mathews who is tied for 37th after a 76. Tied for 50th is Hana Kim after posting a 77, and tied for 78th is Melissa Martin after carding a first round score of 80.
UNLV's Sunny Oh and USC's Mikaela Parmlid are tied for first place after firing five-under par scores of 67. Kim Welch of Washington State and Tanya Dergel of USC are tied for third at four-under par 68. Mayorkas is tied with ASU's Erin Tone and Oklahoma State's Linda Wessberg.
