Bruins Earn Top-20 Finish At Santa Clara International Swim Meet

Santa Clara, Calif. - UCLA sent several athletes to the Santa Clara International Swim Meet over the weekend and came home with a Top-20 team finish amongst a field of world-class swimmers.

The Bruins tallied 97.5 team points to finish 19th in the team standings. Keiko Price led the Bruins with a fifth-place finish in the 100 free (57.43) and a third-place showing in the 50 free (25.93). Price's 50m time placed her in a tie with 1992 Olympic gold medalist Ashley Tappin and in front of 1996 Olympic gold medalist Catherine Fox. Three-time Olympian Dara Torres set a new American record in that race with a time of 24.73.

Nicole Beck earned points by placing 10th in the 100m backstroke (1:05.81) and 12th in the 100m butterfly (1:03.06). Beth Goodwin placed 10th in the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:17.50.

The UCLA relay team of Goodwin, Ashley Grissom, Marilyn Chua and Price placed eighth in the 400m freestyle relay with a time of 4:04.54.
