This week, the Bruins will have a break from the action in the pool. UCLA will return to the pool Saturday, November 9, hosting the University of San Diego Toreros at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center at noon.
On October 25 and 26, the Bruins competed at the Southern Methodist Classic in Dallas, TX. UCLA placed fourth with a two-day total of 273.50 points.
UCLA was paced by junior Malin Svahnstrom throughout the weekend. The first night of competition, Svahnstrom placed second in the 200 Free (1:50.40) and anchored the 800 Free Relay (fourth, 7:33.68). On Saturday, Svahnstrom won the 100 Free (51.40), placed third in the 200 IM (2:04.33) and swam on the 400 Free Relay (fifth, 3:30.26).
In the diving events, senior Regan Gosnell placed second in both the one- and three-meter, scoring 249.60 and 280.25 points, respectively.
UCLA also received strong performances from freshman Kim Vandenberg, who placed third in both the 100 Fly (55.35) and 50 Free (24.23) and was seventh in the 200 Fly (2:02.25).
UCLA's next home meet will take place Saturday, November 9, at noon against the University of San Diego.
The Bruins will resume Pac-10 competition November 23 and 24, against the Arizona State Sun Devils and Arizona Wildcats.
All Bruin home meets are held at the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center located on the UCLA campus.
