No. 4 UCLA Women's Water Polo Looks to Four-Peat

National Collegiate Championships: The UCLA Bruins (21-9 overall, 6-3 MPSF) finished second at the Southern California Western Regional Qualification Tournament, earning an automatic berth to the Collegiate Championships. The Bruins will travel to UC Davis on May 7-9 to try and contend for their fourth straight national title. Last year, the Bruins defeated California 7-3 in the title game.

On Friday, May 7, the fourth-seeded Bruins meet #13 Maryland (22-8) for a 10:30 am matchup, which will be held at Solono College. UCLA currently holds a 4-0 all-time record over the Terrapins, having most recently defeated Maryland 15-1 at last year's National Collegiate Championships.

If the Bruins win their first game, they will play at Solano College again on Friday at 5:30 pm against the winner of the Hawai'i vs. UC San Diego matchup. Further matchups will be determined by the results of Friday's games in this round-robin style competition.

On Friday, May 7, games will be played concurrently at Solano College in Suison and at UC Davis' Hickey Pool. On Saturday and Sunday, May 8-9, all games will be held at Hickey Pool. Tickets are $5 general admission, $3 students/ senior citizens. Two-day passes: $8 general, $5 students/seniors. Three-day passes: $12 general, $7 students/seniors. Children 5 or under are free. Participating schools include (in order of seed): USC (26-2), Stanford (21- 5), California (26-5), UCLA (21-9), Hawai'i (23-13), San Diego State (20-18), UC Davis (24-10), UC Santa Barbara (14-15), San Jose State (16-20), UMass (29-6), Long Beach State (14-20), UC San Diego (11-14), Maryland (22-8), Princeton (28- 8-1), Michigan (33-8) and Indiana (21-14).

Bruin Notes:

Freshman Elaine Zivich (Lompoc) is currently leading the team with 55 goals. The 5-11 attacker has scored in all but two of UCLA's 30 games this season. At the Southern California Regional Qualifying Tournament, she fired in a team-high seven goals. Zivich is followed by sophomore Kristin Guerin (Los Alamitos) who has tallied 30 goals this season.
