Princeton, NJ - The UCLA women's tennis team debuted at No. 6 in the Fall Rankings Tuesday, as released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in Princeton, New Jersey. The Bruins move up a spot after finishing last season at No. 7 in the final rankings.
Also released Tuesday were the regional rankings, where UCLA debuted at No. 1 in the West Region. In addition, five Bruins are ranked among the top-30 players in the region.
Leading the way in the national singles rankings is freshman Sara Walker, who moved up from No. 66 in the preseason to No. 46 in the latest fall rankings. Annica Cooper is UCLA's only other player ranked in singles, listed at No. 83. Cristina Popescu and Amanda Basica fell out of the singles rankings due to inactivity resulting from injuries. In doubles, Walker and Petya Marinova went from being unranked in the preseason to No. 19, while Elizabeth Schmidt and Abigail Spears, also unranked in the preseason, are listed at No. 35.
