The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team fell into a second place tie after 36 holes in the Regional Challenge, hosted by Ohio State and USC at the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif.
The Bruins posted a score of 304 (+20) and have a two-day total of 593, 25-over par. They trail Pepperdine, which posted a 296 (+12) Tuesday, by one shot. UCLA is tied with top-ranked Duke. Florida was fourth at 599 and Oklahoma State was fifth at 601.
Individually for UCLA, only senior Charlotte Mayorkas moved up the leaderboard. The All-American posted an even par 71 in the second round and was tied for second place at 145 (+3) with Pepperdine's Eileen Vargas. Both players were chasing Brittany Lang of Duke at 140 (-2).
UCLA's Susie Mathews posted a 76 (+5) and was tied for fourth at 146 (+4). Sophomore Hannah Jun was tied for eighth at 148 (+6) and Amie Cochran was tied for 36th at 154 (+12). Freshman Vanessa Brockett was tied for 54th at 157 (+15).
Senior Melissa Martin, playing as an individual, was tied for 20th at 150 (+8).
Final round action continues Wednesday.
