Two-time All-American Charlotte Mayorkas is playing as an amateur in this week's LPGA event, the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic at Highland Meadow Golf Club in Sylvania, OH.
Mayorkas posted an even par score 71 and was tied for 31st place, six shots behind first place Karen Stupples, who fired a first round 65. Mayorkas was one-under par after a birdie at the par 4 third hole, but a bogey at the par 3 eighth and a par at No. 9 gave her an outward score of even par 34. On the back nine, she bogeyed the par 4 11th and remained at one-over par until a birdie at the par 5 18th brought her back to even par.
Last month, Mayorkas won the ninth California Women's State Championship by 12 shots at the Pala Mesa Resort in Fallbrook. She posted rounds of 68-68-72--208 (-8) and was the only player in the field under par. She beat former teammate Gina Umeck and Placentia's Jennifer Sanders who each placed second at 220. Umeck began the third round in second place trailing by seven strokes, but a five-over par 77 dropped her out of the running by the end of the round. She also carded a 71 in the first round, one of just four rounds under par for the tournament.
Incoming freshman Amie Cochran place seventh at 227 (+11) and redshirt freshman Brianna Loyear tied for 21st at 239 (+23).
