Walnut Creek, CA - The UCLA women's basketball team has been chosen by the league's coaches to place third in the Pac-10 Conference, its highest pre-season placement since 1999-2000, when the coaches voted the Bruins as the No. 1 Pac-10 team.
Defending co-champion Stanford has been selected as the favorite for the fifth-straight year with eight first-place votes and 79 points overall. Arizona, the other co-champion in 2003-04, totaled 72 points with one first-place vote. UCLA, which finished in a tie for third place last season, had the other first-place vote and 68 points overall. All three teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season.
Rounding out the Top 10 are Arizona State, Oregon, Washington, USC, California, Oregon State and Washington State.
The Bruins will kick off their season with an exhibition game against Love and Basketball on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 2:00 pm. Official practices start this Saturday, Oct. 16.
