LOS ANGELES -- UCLA men's cross country coach Bob Larsen and Bruin women's coach Eric Peterson will send "B" teams this Saturday (Oct. 3) to the Biola Invitational, held at the La Mirada Regional Park. The women's 5K will start at 4:30 p.m. and the men's 8K at 5 p.m.
UCLA's top men's and women's runners will be training through the weekend, getting ready for the Oct. 10 Murray Keating Invite in Orono, ME. In this week's national cross country rankings, the Bruin women are rated No. 20 in the nation.
Last Saturday, UCLA participated at the Roy Griak Invite in Minneapolis, one of the nation's top cross country invitationals. The Bruin women tied for fourth place with host No. 17 Minnesota (each with 148 points), behind winner No. 3 Providence (90) and No. 13 Northern Arizona (98) and No. 16 Oregon (134). UCLA's men placed 14th (309; No. 6 Providence also won the men's title with 106 points).
In Minneapolis, the Bruin women had two runners in the Top 20, led by sophomores, Kelly Cohn, who placed 13th (17:48) over the 5,000m course and Julie Ott, who was 20th (18:01). The Bruin men were paced by senior Mark Hauser, who placed 23rd (25:22) on the 8,000m course.
