The UCLA men's tennis team had two players advance to finals of the Sherwood Collegiate Cup in Thousand Oaks, Calif. on Sunday, as senior Luben Pampoulov and sophomore Ben Kohlloeffel each posted semifinal victories.
Pampoulov, seeded fourth, defeated teammate Philipp Gruendler, 6-1, 6-4. Kohlloeffel, the No. 2 seed, advanced with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Baylor's Lars Poerschke. Monday's final begins at 11:00 a.m.
In doubles action, Kohlloeffel and Pampoulov lost in the semifinals to Baylor's Poerschke/Kota, 9-7. UCLA's Mathieu Dehaine and Chris Lam lost in the quarterfinals to Stanford's Jon Wong/Sam Warburg, 8-5.
At the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Palm Springs, Calif., UCLA's Alberto Francis fell in the consolation draw to Virginia's Somdev Devvarman, 6-3, 6-1. That loss concludes UCLA's involvement at the NCTC.
