UCLA Will Begin Pre-Season Camp On The Road

May 17, 2002

The UCLA athletic department announced today that the Bruin football team will open its pre-season training camp off campus this August. The team will begin two-a-day workouts for the 2002 season on Saturday, August 17 at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA.

UCLA opens the new season on Saturday, September 7 in the Rose Bowl against Colorado State.

The Bruins will remain at Cal Lutheran through the morning of Saturday, August 24th. That afternoon, they will return to campus for the annual Fall Scrimmage on Marshall Field in Drake Stadium. Practices will resume at Spaulding Field, on the UCLA campus, beginning on Monday, August 26. Most practices during pre-season camp are expected to be open to the public. A full schedule of practice times will be released at a later date.

"We feel that the move to Cal Lutheran will provide our team a chance to come together and bond," said head coach Bob Toledo. "Team chemistry has become an increasingly important component of success in athletics and being at Cal Lutheran will give us a chance to lay the foundation for the coming season."

Cal Lutheran served as the pre-season home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys for over a decade. The last year the Cowboys trained there was 1989.

UCLA's annual media day will be held on campus on Friday, August 16th. The team will depart for Cal Lutheran late that afternoon.
