UCLA Defeats Princeton, 15-2, in First Round of NorCal Tournament

Palo Alto, Calif. - The third-ranked UCLA men's water polo team downed Princeton, 15-2, in a first-round NorCal Tournament match Saturday afternoon at Stanford's Belardi Pool. The Bruins will face UC Davis this evening at 5:20 p.m (Belardi Pool).

UCLA sophomore Krsto Sbutega led the Bruin attack with four goals, and nine Bruins scored at least one goal. The Bruins (2-0) raced to a 4-1 lead in the first half against Princeton (5-2) after Sbutega and Zider recorded the game's first two goals (at 5:14 and 3:32, respectively). After Princeton junior Zach Beckmann tallied the Tigers' lone first-quarter goal, UCLA opened up a 12-0 run from 1:39 in the first quarter until 3:02 in the final frame.

The Bruins led 8-1 at halftime and 11-1 after three periods. UCLA senior Grant Zider, junior Marco Santos and sophomore Pat Morrison each registered two goals apiece for the Bruins.

UCLA freshman goalkeeper Chay Lapin recorded five saves. Princeton's Scott Syverson made five stops in the cage for the Tigers.
