McKinley Tennyson Jr. Named National, Conference Soccer Player Of The Week

Sept. 12, 2000

UCLA senior forward McKinley Tennyson Jr. (Indianapolis, IN/North Central HS) has earned National Player of the Week honors and Pac-10 Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 5-10.

Tennyson helped UCLA retain the No. 1 ranking and an unbeaten record when he recorded the first hat trick of his career Sept. 6 against San Diego State. Tennyson netted three goals in the first 34 minutes of the game to lead the Bruins to a 5-0 victory. The hat trick moved him into fifth place in UCLA's record books with six career multiple goal games. He leads the team with four goals in just two games and has totaled 29 goals and 76 points in his four years as a Bruin.

The national honors are the first for a UCLA player this season. His Pac-10 honor is the second consecutive for a Bruin, following Shaun Tsakiris' selection a week ago. Tennyson had previously earned conference player of the week honors in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) in 1997.
