Senior goalkeeper Joe Axelrad (Studio City, CA/Harvard-Westlake HS) of the UCLA Men's Water Polo Team was selected as the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 25-31.
Axelrad led the Bruins to a 7-4 victory over No. 2 Stanford on Saturday. The win, which extended UCLA's winning streak to 12 matches, was highlighted by Axelrad's season-high 14 saves, including his 300th career. On Sunday, he contributed seven more saves in the Bruins' 11-6 win over No. 9 Long Beach State. Axelrad has now limited opponents to six or fewer goals for seven straight matches while UCLA has gone on to average just under 10 scores per game. Axelrad also contributed two steals over the weekend.
This is Axelrad's first UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
