LOS ANGELES - Despite being outshot 21-0, Texas A&M managed to pull off the upset over seventh-seeded UCLA on penalty kicks (3-1) after playing to a 0-0 tie Saturday evening in a third-round NCAA match at UCLA's Drake Stadium. Texas A&M (20-4-1) moves on to the NCAA quarterfinals and will take on second-seeded North Carolina.

The Bruins (18-4) dominated all throughout regulation and in both overtime periods but could not find the back of the net. The UCLA defense was also spectacular, completely shutting down Texas A&M's scoring attack. Saturday marked the first time ever that a Bruin team held an opponent to zero shots. In the past, UCLA has held five other opponents to one shot.

"What's ringing in my ears right now is what their coach said to me right after the match, which was 'life isn't fair.'" said UCLA head coach Jillian Ellis. "I felt that we outclassed their team and dominated the game. We just didn't finish our chances."

Texas A&M freshman goalkeeper Kati Jo Spisak had 10 saves on the evening, making several spectacular saves to keep the game scoreless. Bruin forward Lindsay Greco had a game-high seven shots in the loss.

In the penalty kick shootout, UCLA shot first with Whitney Jones putting one in the left corner past Spisak for a 1-0 lead. Texas A&M's Amanda Burke then answered to make it 1-1. Spisak saved UCLA's next shot by Iris Mora and A&M went ahead 2-1 when Heather Ragsdale slipped one past Bruin goalkeeper Sarah Lombardo. Spisak made another great save on the next shot by midfielder Allie True. Texas A&M went ahead 3-1 on a shot by Laura Probst. Bruin defender Nandi Pryce missed wide left on the next shot and Texas A&M registered the victory.

"UCLA is such an unbelievably talented team," said Texas A&M head coach G. Guerrieri. "Kati Jo won the game for us tonight. We came here to get a result tonight and style points were not a part of it. It's unfortunate that a team can take no shots and still win."
