Bruin Swimming Defeats UCSD 186-108

La Jolla, CA - In today's meet against the UC San Diego Tritons, the Bruin swimming team won 154-102. Last Saturday, January 10, the diving events took place. The Bruins scored 32 points to UCSD's 6. In all, the Bruins tallied 186 points. The Tritons scored 108. With the victory, UCLA is now 10-0 all-time against UC San Diego.

True freshman Jane Imagane led the Bruins in the pool. On the day, she was a three-event winner. Imagane kicked off the day by winning the 200 Free in 1:51.76. Next up, she won the 500 Free in 4:51.56. And, capping off her day, Imagane swam the fastest time in the 200 IM, 2:05.37, in exhibition. In all, she scored 18 points.

Senior Naoko Watanabe was a dual winner for the Bruins. She won the 100 Back in 56.94 and the 200 Back in 2:01.66. Also victorious were seniors Jackie Lobdell (1000 Free, 10:01.34), Kristen Lewis (200 Fly, 2:01.73) and Sara Platzer (50 Free, 23.44). Freshman Amy Thurman won the 100 Free in 51.71. Kendall Butler won the 100 Fly in 57.69. And, Kim Scarborough won the 400 IM in 4:21.50.

In last Saturday's diving action, the Bruins had the top-three scores in the one- and three-meter events. Sophomore Amanda Blong won both the one- and three-meter, scoring 250.25 and 258.15 points, respectively. Junior Janine Strack placed second on one-meter (246.35) and third on three-meter (252.55). And, sophomore Sara Clark was second on three-meter (254-70) and third on one-meter (238-25).

Next up, the Bruins will host Stanford on Friday, January 30. The diving events will begin at 1:00 PM at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center. Swimming events will take place at Men's Gym Pool at 2:00 PM.
