The 13th ranked UCLA women's golf team travels to the Spartan Invitational, Mar. 4-5, hosted by San Jose State University at the Corral De Tierra Country Club in Salinas.
The Bruins will be making their first appearance in this year's event. The field includes three teams ranked among the Top 10 in No. 5 Pepperdine, No. 7 California and No. 10 Washington. California is the defending champion.
UCLA will field a team of two sophomores and three juniors. The Bruins have finished no worse than eighth in every event on their schedule this season.
Sophomore Charlotte Mayorkas enters the Spartan Invitational ranked 13th nationally. She boasts two Top 10 finishes in her last two events and leads the Bruins in scoring average at 74.7. She tied for ninth place last week at the Wildcat Invitational after posting an even par, final round score of 71.
Junior Gina Umeck tied for 33rd last week, playing as an individual. She leads the team with four Top 20 finishes, and all 12 of her eligible rounds have counted toward team competition. This week, Umeck was ranked 86th nationally.
Junior Melissa Martin is ranked 95th this week. She boasts two Top 20 finishes, including a Top 10 finish at the Regional Challenge last month.
Sophomore Yvonne Choe tied for sixth at the Kent Youel Invitational in Hawaii in November. She is ranked 116th this week.
Junior Krystal Shearer will be making her third appearance this season. She tied for 29th at the Wildcat Invitational, her best collegiate finish to date.
Fourth-year junior Bridget Dwyer is ranked 125th this week and has been improving steadily. She recorded her best finish in two years, tying for 22nd at the Wildcat Invitational. Her first round score of 74 was a career best and she has dropped her scoring average nearly two strokes since November.
