Final Stats

WESTWOOD - The UCLA women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought four-game match to the Arizona Wildcats Friday night at Pauley Pavilion, 32-34, 30-21, 30-21, 30-28. The Bruins finish conference play with a 9-9 record (16-13 overall), while the Wildcats finish 16-10 (11-7 Pac-10).

Despite the defeat, the Bruins out-hit the visitors .188 to .163, with four UCLA athletes in double-figures in kills. Brittany Ringel paced the Bruins with 16, while Heather Cullen and Lauren Fendrick each had 13, and Brynn Murphy had 12. Chrissie Zartman paced all defenders with a game-high 26 digs.

The Bruins led for most of game one before Arizona caught UCLA at 30. Both teams traded points until the 32-32 mark, when two attack errors by Arizona sealed the opening stanza for UCLA. The Bruins out-hit Arizona for the game, .241 to .100

But Arizona grabbed the momentum in game two, despite UCLA holding the Wildcats to .075 hitting for the game. UCLA kept it close to start game three trailing by one as late as 9-8, but Arizona took hold of the match with an 11-3 run and a 2-1 lead.

The fourth game took on a different tone, as neither team led by more than three until 29-25 Arizona. Though the Bruins staged a late rally, scoring three straight points to cut the lead to 29-28 in favor of the Wildcats, Arizona's Jolene Killough made her only kill of the night count big for the visitors.

Friday night's match was senior night in Pauley Pavilion, honoring Angela Eckmier, Lauren Fendrick and Lauren Hogan. All three started the match, including Eckmier, who is less than three weeks off of knee surgery for a torn ACL. She was replaced by libero Chrissie Zartman before the first serve of the match, which was put in play by Hogan. Hogan had not played in a match since September 21, 2001, due to continuing shoulder problems. She served the first two rallies of the match, as the Bruins scored the opening point. Hogan recorded a dig on the second rally of the match.

UCLA returns to action over the holiday weekend, traveling to the Albuturkey Tournament in Albuquerque, NM, to face Butler on Friday, Nov. 29, and a doubleheader with Rice and host New Mexico on Saturday, Nov. 30, before returning to Westwood for NCAA selection on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 6 pm on ESPNEWS.
