LOS ANGELES - UCLA women's tennis player Riza Zalameda captured the singles title last week at a USTA Women's Pro Circuit event held at the Kickingbird Tennis Center in Edmond, Okla.
Zalameda, who was seeded eighth, defeated top-seeded Alexa Glatch of Newport Beach, Calif., 6-4, 6-1 in the final. The win was significant for Zalameda, as Glatch is ranked No. 253 in the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Rankings. Zalameda dropped just one set five singles matches during the tournament.
Zalameda, who will be a junior at UCLA in 2006-07, is competing this summer as an amateur. She is currently in the main draw of another pro circuit event this week in Southlake, TX.
