LOS ANGELES - As the 2000 USA Track & Field Trials resume Thursday, UCLA's number of athletes on the U. S. Olympic Team has risen to six, with the addition of 400m performer Andrea Anderson.
Anderson, who placed sixth (51.32) in the women's 400m final on Sunday, has been added to the team as a 4 X 400m relay participant. During her Bruin career (1996-99), Anderson was a four-time Outdoor All-American and a three-time Pac-10 champion in the 200m and 400m.
Anderson now joins five other Bruins who have already made the 2000 USA Track & Field squad - Mebrahtom Keflezighi (men's 10,000m champion), Shelia Burrell (second-place, heptathlon), Amy Acuff (third-place, women's high jump) and Seilala Sua and Suzy Powell (first and second-place in the women's discus).
After a two-day rest, the 2000 USA T & F Trials resume today (Thursday) at Hornet Stadium on the campus at CS Sacramento. The meet will conclude Sunday. Former Bruins competing today (Thursday) include - Avery Anderson in the decathlon (first day), Dawn Dumble in the women's shot put (qualifying), Deana Simmons in the women's triple jump (qualifying),Josh Johnson in the men's javelin (final) and Jess Strutzel in the men's 800m (qualifying).
The 2000 Summer Olympic Games will take place in Sydney, Australia from Sept. 22-Oct. 1.
