Newport Beach, Calif. - The UCLA women's rowing team competed today in Newport Beach, Calif. at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival (NARF), sponsored by Union Bank of California. The Bruins placed third in the Women's Open Eight in their final competition of the fall season.
The Bruins entered two crews in the Women's Open Eight. The UCLA "A" (varsity eight) crew rowed the 2.7-mile (4400m) course in 17:53.00 to place third in the competition. Rowing in the UCLA "A" boat were Anja Wanberg, Jessica Rogers, Monica Grova, Dawn Regan, Brooke Jordan, Kristina Tritsch, Liz Pallas-Jacobs, Elizabeth Felter, and Emina Ong (cox).
Finishing ahead of the Bruins were USC "A", and LMU "A". This marked the second consecutive victory for the Trojans in the event. Rounding off the top five were Sacramento State and USC "B". The UCLA "B" (second varsity eight) crew finished 18th in 18:55.00.
In the Women's Novice Eight, the Bruins finished sixth with a time of 19:11.00, a little more than a minute behind the top-finisher, San Diego State (18:02.00). Sacramento State, Orange Coast, Loyola Marymount, and USC rounded out the top five.

The Bruins return to action next season on Mar. 15, 2003, to dual Long Beach State at home in Marina del Rey, Calif.
