Freshman Tess Schofield capped off the 2006 U.S. Open Diving Championships with a lifetime-best performance, placing seventh on the plaform with a new personal-best score by over 20 points of 282.40 points. Schofield advanced to the final after placing 10th during the semifinals on Friday.
Schofield got it rolling with her first dive, an Inward 2-1/2 somersaults tuck and kept her foot on the gas all the way through the list. Her biggest dive was her third dive, a 624B, back armstand with two somersaults which scored over 63 points.
"Tess was just great today," said Head Dive Coach Tom Stebbins. "I am so proud of how she pushed herself and how willing she was to allow me to push her throughout the year. Finishing where she did, and most importantly how she did it, is a real testament to the work she has put in this year. It was just a great afternoon for Tess and our program."
