Box Score

Los Angeles, Calif. - The seventh-ranked UCLA men's soccer team defeated 16th-ranked Cal State Fullerton, 4-1 at UCLA's Frank W. Marshall Field. The Bruins scored three second half-goals to break a 1-1 halftime tie.

Bruin forward Cliff McKinley (Fountain Valley, Calif./Fountain Valley HS) began the scoring at the 17:44 mark when he took a Jimmy Frazelle (Folsom, Calif./Bella Vista HS) pass and dribbled it up the right side before firing in a shot past Fullerton keeper Jeff McKeever. The Titans equalized 16 minutes later when midfielder Keith Buckley scored on a rebounded shot at the 33:39 mark.

UCLA came out of the gates quickly in the second half. In the 49th minute, junior forward Tim Pierce (Dana Point, Calif./Santa Margarita HS) fired a shot that McKeever got a hand on, but Pierce did not give up on the play and collected the rebound for the second-effort goal, his team-leading fourth of the season.

Freshman forward Ahmed Khalil (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Canyon HS) earned his first career goal in the 60th minute when he slotted in a shot from the far left side of the field. Sophomore midfielder Adolfo Gregorio (Hilmar, Calif./Hilmar HS) rounded out the scoring with his first goal of the season. Gregorio was assisted by freshman Mike Enfield (Ventura, Calif./Ventura HS), who had entered the game just 18 seconds earlier.

"Today's performance was the appropriate answer to last week's disappointment. We showed great confidence to come out against our rival and attack them the way we did," said UCLA head coach Todd Saldana. "This is a young, talented team with a lot of depth. It all fell into place today."

UCLA improves its record to 3-2-1, while Cal State Fullerton drops to 2-2-1. The Bruins will next face UC Santa Barbara on the road on Friday, Sept. 28 at 8:00 pm.
