Track And Field Announces 1999 Fall Signees

Men Signees
The Bruin men have six newcomers who will be freshman next fall, led by sprinter Warren Rogers. Rogers, a senior at Serra HS in Gardena, is the nation's top returning prep sprinter. In 1999, his 10.34 100m was No. 2 on the U. S. high school list and his 20.88 in the 200m was No. 3. Also signing with the Bruin men were:

--Anthony Golston, from Pt. Loma HS who lives in San Diego. Golston is the top returning high school hurdler in the State. He's run a 14.31 in the 110m high hurdles and in the 300m hurdles, his 36.98 was the No. 14 time in the U. S. last year on the prep charts.

--Oliver Jackson II, from Royal HS in Simi Valley. Jackson is the top returning long and triple jumper in the State. His long jump mark of 24-4 3/4 (24-8w) was the nation's No. 8 prep mark in 1999. He's also run a 38.5 300m hurdle time.

--Juaune Armon, from Arch Bishop Mitty HS in San Jose. Armon, the top prep jumper in northern California, he is also one of the best combination (long/triple) jumpers in the U. S. His best marks are 23-11 (lj) and 46-0 (tj).

--Anthony Ortiz, from Helix HS in La Mesa, CA. The top returning triple jumper in the State, with a mark of 48-3.

--Trevor Jones, from Newport Harbor in Newport Beach. Jones, who can double in the 400m hurdles and 400m, has a 37.56 300m hurdle time and has run a 48.0 400m.

Women Signees
UCLA's women have five new signees, led by sprinter Hasani Roseby, from Monterey, CA HS. Regarded as the No. 1 sprinter on the west coast, Roseby, a CA State champion in the sprints and hurdles, is also a top long jumper. In 1999 she earned Track & Field News All-America honors in the 100m, running the nation's No. 2 time (11.42) on the prep chart. Her 23.52 200m was No. 8 on the U. S. prep list. Also signing with the Bruin women were:

--Sheena Johnson, from Garfield HS in Dale City, VA. Perhaps the nation's top all-around recruit, Johnson competes in the sprints, hurdles and jumps. Last year as a junior, she earned T&FN All-America honors in the 300m/400m hurdles. Her time of 41.76 in the 300m hurdles was No. 6 on the U. S. prep list and her 59.12 in the 400m hurdles was No. 3. In the triple jump, her 42-4 3/4 indoor mark was the No. 1 prep distance in the U. S. in 1999.

--Valerie Flores, from San Pedro, CA HS. Flores is the top high school female distance and cross country runner in the Los Angeles city area.

--Adia McKinnon, from Homewood-Flossmoor, IL HS. A 4.0 student, McKinnon is one of the top prep female sprinters in the midwest. Her 23.89 200m mark from 1999 was No. 16 on the U. S. prep list. She attends the same school as recent UCLA men's basketball signee, T. J. Cummings.

--Lana Saye, from Silverado HS in Henderson, NV. The defending NV State champion in the discus, Saye is one of the top combination (shot put/discus) throwers in the U. S. In the discus last year as a junior, her 156-0 was No. 13 on the U. S. high school chart.
