Bruins Win 8-6 Slugfest With Pepperdine:
UCLA hit three solo home runs in the first inning and came back from a three-run deficit in the sixth inning to earn an 8-6 win over the Waves.
Chad Concolino, Billy Susdorf and Hector Ambriz all homered in the first frame, while Ambriz led the team with three RBI on the day. Brett McMillan went 3-for-3 as the Bruins recorded 13 hits as a team.
Brant Rustich picked up his first collegiate win after pitching a career-high 3.2 innings and striking out a career-high five batters.
Bruins Split A Pair With Pacific in Rainy Weekend Series:
Casey Janssen hurled an eight-inning, 10 strikeout performance on Friday night to lift UCLA to a 6-1 victory over Pacific. Saturday's starter Alex Graham returned the favor with a complete game in which he held the Bruins to two hits en route to a 7-0 Tiger win. The teams tried to beat an incoming storm by scheduling a double- header on Saturday, but the rain cut short the second game as UCLA trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth frame. The game is not likely to be rescheduled.
Friday night featured 11 Bruin hits, as senior Chad Concolino hit two doubles and three other Bruins had multiple hit games. Preston Griffin went two-for two at the plate with two doubles of his own along with two runs driven in.
The Vulcans enter the week with 4-15 record after losing three straight to Hawaii last weekend.
Head Coach Joey Estrella is in his 27th year as the head coach of Hawaii-Hilo. The teams have not met since the 2002 season when the Bruins won two games in Hawaii. Over the course of the series, UCLA has built an eight-game advantage with an 8-0 record against Vulcans.
