Fresno, Calif. - Bruin juniors Alberto Francis and Kris Kwinta each won a pair of singles matches Friday in the Flight-A singles draw of the Fresno State Bulldog Tennis Classic. The Bruins also had two doubles teams post victories.
Francis defeated UCSB's Michael Frick, 6-1, 6-1 in the first round and then defeated UNLV's Aviram Salomon, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round. He next faces Washington's Alex Slovic in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Kwinta posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Santa Clara's Gernot Fischer in the first round before dispatching of Fresno State's Alex Krohn, 6-3, 6-0 in the second round. He matches up against USC's Ruben Torres in the quarterfinals.
In doubles play, Francis and Kwinta teamed together to defeat UNLV's Massaro/Blagajevic, 8-2. UCLA's other team of Chris Surapol/Aaron Yovan defeated Santa Clara's Fischer/Kochanski, 9-8(0).
Surapol, Jason Nguyen and Yovan dropped first-round singles matches Friday.
