Marina del Rey, Calif. - The UCLA women's rowing team competed today at the Head of the Marina, hosted by the California Yacht Club, in Marina del Rey, Calif. The varsity women swept the Women's Open Eight, finishing in first and second.
The Bruins entered five crews in today's regatta, two varsity eights and three novice crews.
In the varsity race, the Bruin varsity eight rowed the 5000m course (roughly three miles) in 20:21.00 to capture the victory. The Bruins were led by a team composed of Anja Wanberg, Jessica Rogers, Monica Grova, Dawn Regan, Brooke Jordan, Kristina Tritsch, Liz Pallas-Jacobs, Elizabeth Felter, and Emina Ong (cox).
The Bruins' second varsity eight tied for second with Loyola Marymount with a time of 20:39.00. Also competing on the collegiate level was Loyola Marymount "B", finishing in sixth with a time of 21:19.00.
Amongst the novice crews, the UCLA novice "B" eight finished second in 22:37.00, only 6-seconds behind top-finisher Loyola Marymount (22:31.00). The Bruin novice "A" and "C" crews finished in third and fourth, respectively.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow, Nov. 3, at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival.
