Aug. 4, 2006

Athens, Greece - The U.S. Women's Senior National Water Polo Team earned the FINA World League Super Final title after defeating Italy, 9-6, on Sunday, July 30. Former UCLA standout Natalie Golda scored two goals in the United States' title-clinching match. UCLA graduate Jamie Hipp and UCLA senior goalkeeper Emily Feher were also on the women's team roster.

Team USA outlasted Italy by taking a 3-2 lead after one period and maintaining a one-goal margin through the first half, 5-4. Each team added one goal in the third frame, but the United States pulled away in the final quarter, outscoring Italy, 3-1.

This was the U.S. women's second gold in the FINA World League. Team USA also won the title in 2004, the event's inaugural year, while Greece won in 2005.
