Oct. 7, 2005

Box Score

The No. 21 UCLA Bruins defeated the Oregon Ducks in three straight games (30-15, 30-23, 30-24) in Pac-10 women's volleyball action on Friday night in Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins improved to 8-5 (1-3 Pac-10), while the Ducks fell to 10-6 (0-5 Pac-10).

As a team, UCLA hit .268 while recording 15.0 team blocks. Oregon hit just .009 for the match with only 4.0 team blocks. Lyman led the team with 13 digs and recorded four aces in her first game back in action after the injury.

Junior Nana Meriwether led the team with 9 kills and an attack percentage of .643. Meriwether also recorded 10 blocks in the match (2-8). Senior Nancy Barba and freshman Kaitlin Sather each added eight kills, while Sather led the team with five aces.

In game one the Bruins opened up with a 4-0 run and continued to dominate the Ducks, going on to win game one 30-15 with game point being scored on a dump by freshman Nellie Spicer. Game two looked to be in Oregon's favor as they opened up an early 3-0 lead on the Bruins, but UCLA tied the game at 3-3. The Ducks used a 6-1 run to pull to a 9-4 lead, but the Bruins closed to 9-10 after a kill by Nancy Barba. With the game tied at 11, another kill by Barba would give UCLA its first lead of the second game as the Bruins would go on to win game two 30-23. As a team, UCLA raised their attack percentage to .406 in the second game as three of their players (Kaitlin Sather, Meriwether and junior Katie Carter) had six kills a piece.

UCLA jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in game three, but Oregon would tie it up at 9. With the score tied at 13 all, the Bruins would begin to pull away as they went on an 11-2 run to lead 24-15. A kill by Meriwether would give the Bruins a game three win and its first Pac-10 victory of the season.
