The top-ranked and unbeaten UCLA men's volleyball team hosts three matches to continue its 10-match homestand.
On Thursday, Feb. 26, the Bruins (13-0, 9-0) host UC Irvine (9-2, 6-2) in a key MPSF Mountain Division match; on Feb. 28 they host Lewis (9-3) in a non-league contest and on Mar. 3 they host Loyola University of Chicago. All matches will begin at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
Last week, the Bruins swept three opponents, including league foe UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday. Against the Gauchos the Bruins got 12 kills apiece from senior Ben Moselle and sophomore Adam Naeve, while junior Fred Robins recorded a double-double--10 kills and 12 digs. The Bruins won the battle at the net, outblocking the Gauchos 9-5 and outhitting them .439-.200.
Against Cal State San Bernardino, UCLA set school single match and single game attack percentage records. For the match, the Bruins hit .690, eclipsing the previous record of .667 set in 1984, and in Game 1, the Bruins hit .938 (15-0-16).
On Saturday, Cal State Northirdge became UCLA's 13th victim, 11th by sweep. Naeve's 19 kills led all players and Moselle added 13.
UC Irvine is enjoying one of its best starts ever with a league sweep over UC Santa Barbara and a home victory over USC. The Anteaters have never beaten UCLA in 33 meetings.
Last season, the Bruins received a major scare from Lewis after winning 24-22 in the fifth game at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins lead the series with the Flyers 3-0.
The March 3 match against Loyola University of Chicago will be the first meeting between the Bruins and the Ramblers.
