Marilyn Chua Qualifies for Olympic Games

July 17, 2000

LOS ANGELES - With a FINA qualifying time in the 50 freestyle posted at last weekend's Janet Evans Invitational, UCLA junior Marilyn Chua has punched her ticket for the 2000 Olympic Games.

Chua's long course meters time of 27.16 exceeds the Olympic Games qualifying mark set by FINA, the international federation for aquatic sports. Additionally, the time is a new Malaysian record in the event, and gives Chua the country's berth to the Olympics in that event.

Additionally, Bruin sophomore-to-be Regan Gosnell has qualified for the U.S. Senior Nationals in platform diving. The U.S. Senior Nationals will take place in Mission Viejo, CA, Aug. 8-13.
